So July is a bit of a funny month for me. Its always winter here in NZ, it’s my birthday month and it’s also the month of my dad’s passing. The 9th of July in fact – 13 years ago. It’s true time makes these easier to deal with, but there are always times you wish they could still be here.
Sunday was dad’s anniversary so me and little Ben headed out to his special spot to say and hi and remember.
The reason I’m sharing this with you as dad’s passing was one of the things that got me into the fitness industry. Dad was only 61. He was trying to better his health and loose weight after a triple by-pass he had 6 months earlier. He had a heart attack while working out on a treadmill at a gym. For dad it was too late I suppose, but he was trying to making a change.
As I’ve evolved as a trainer and have moved away from the weight loss is be all and end all of working out. It’s so much more than that. And it’s not just about exercise. It’s about fueling your body. Its about positive mindset and happiness. It’s about being strong and energized to get the most out of your life. Its about preventing illness and disease. It’s about relieving stress. It’s appreciating what you have. It’s about making those changes before it’s to late, it’s about being the best version of you. And the more people I can help realise that and make that their focus for life, the better I am doing what I am supposed to do for people.
So positive flow on effect from the loss of Dad, and doing my bit in life to help others.
Here’s a pic of Ben and I out in the cold saying hi to Dad today x
